THIRD REICH STUDY TOUR, FEBRUARY 2008

The Arnewood School History Department embarked on the Third Reich History Tour for the third year running in February 2008. Forty-five students together with 5 Arnewood staff and accompanying guides visited Nuremberg, Prague, Krakow and Berlin over the course of 10 action packed days.

In Nuremberg, we saw the venues for the Nazis' mass rallies as well as the court used for the post war war crimes tribunal. In Prague we visited the Jewish ghetto as well as the haunting monument to Lidice which was completely destroyed in 1942. In Krakow we visited the Schindler factory and Auschwitz extermination camp before finishing with a visit to the Reichstag and the site of the Wannsee Conference in Berlin.

Year 7 students enjoyed an evening iceskating at the BIC. The 160 students and the Year 7 tutor team, including several tutor prefects from the sixth form, had the rink to themselves. There was a great deal of talent amongst the students, and some amongst the staff. However,it was the way in which more confident skaters supported the first-timers that made the greatest impression. The Year 7 SharePoint area has photos and videos of the trip, as well as an area where students can talk about their experiences and plan the next outing...
